about mcginnis
vinyl selector
Conor McGinnis (formerly ‘mcg’) started selecting tunes for WSUM 91.7 FM Madison over a decade ago. "The Spinzone" became a weekly radio show dedicated to sharing his latest record shop finds. Its early beginnings were mostly jazz-dominated then took a plunge into the deep house, broken beat and nu-disco realms. His programming additionally got picked up by SutroFM.net, an online DIY radio based in San Francisco featuring underground electronic music.
During a stint in Madison, McGinnis joined the JAMS crew, curating events at Robinia Courtyard and opening for artists/DJs such as Seb Wildblood, Peter Croce, Christian James, Jeff Swiff, to name a few. eventually, he made the move to minneapolis, Forming DJ-duo "The Excavators" who host a newer series in the twin cities called "Wax Appeal": a vinyl-focused party showcasing turntablism and dance records rarely heard in the area.
